In the 19th century Mads Lange, a Danish merchant established a trading headquarters and settled in Kuta from where Mads Lange succeeded in running a trade business with the surrounding islands, even with ties to trading businesses from European ships. With good negotiation methods and clever trading methods Mads Lange was able to establish good cooperation with the Kings of Bali and the Netherlands at that time.

In 1960 foreign tourists more and more came to Kuta because of a book entitled “Praise to Kuta” written by Hug Mahbett containing praise about Kuta, the contents of the book inspired the development of Kuta as a tourism area such as lodging facilities and restaurants including places to visit entertainment.
